Few mistakes seen in election
In a short presentation Tuesday to the Clark County Commission, Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax reported no significant errors in canvassing the returns of the primary election.
Lomax said 132,698 votes were cast and clerical errors were reported in three of the 1,031 precincts.
Eleven clerical mistakes were made in one precinct. Two different slates were offered to voters, one of which included the District 6 Board of Education race. Some residents ineligible to vote in the state race were inadvertently given the wrong ballot, Lomax said.
California slaying suspect arrested
A suspect in a California slaying was arrested Tuesday in Las Vegas.
Raymond Randolph, 37, is accused of shooting and killing Richard King, 35, Sept. 1 in Palmdale. Officials said Randolph fled after the shooting and has been in Las Vegas since Sept. 2.
Pair arrested in two killings
Two men were arrested Monday in connection with a double slaying last month that police suspect was gang related.
Darrin Lay, 22, known as Thug-Wak, and Lawrence Doyle, 22, known as L-Wak, were charged with murder and attempted murder. They also face the enhancement of committing the crimes to promote a criminal gang, Metro Police said.
They are accused in the Aug. 7 shooting deaths of Thomas Sterling and Reginald Slaughter and the wounding of another man in a drive-by shooting at Martin Luther King and Lake Mead boulevards.
On Aug. 20 Chester Henry was also charged with murder and attempted murder in the shooting.
Company tabbed for nuke contract
The National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Operations Office has selected Stoller-Navarro Joint Venture Team as the most highly qualified firm for an environmental engineering services contract, officials announced.
The Nevada office will request a cost proposal from Stoller-Navarro. If negotiations are successful, a contract will be awarded. The contract will expire in five years.
The contract includes performing environmental restoration activities associated with historical nuclear weapons testing at the Nevada Test Site, central Nevada sites, New Mexico, Colorado, Mississippi and Alaska. The contract also provides for analytical laboratory services and public involvement associated with the restoration activities.
