Columnist Peter Benton: South Shore’s Akridge triumphs at Southwest Section championship

The Las Vegas Chapter, Southwest Section of the PGA staged its Chapter Championship at the TPC Canyons recently, and chapter president Dale Akridge of the South Shore Golf Club emerged victorious after rounds of 67-73--140 over the par-71 layout.

Travis Long, Dragon Ridge, placed second at 1-under 141 with South Shore's Wes Weston garnering third at even-par 142.

Craig Ranch's Tom Carlson (143) won the Senior Division over Jim Kirwan's (Eagle Crest, 145). Kirwan, with 905 points, leads the Senior point standings followed by Spanish Trail's Jerry Roberts with 787.50 and Carlson with 512.50.

Tyson Tidwell of TPC Canyons is the Chapter's Player of the Year points leader with 652.5. Weston is second with 522.5 while Monty Montgomery of Shadow Creek is third with 426.25.

In the scoring average race Montgomery leads with 71.92. Mike Davis of Walters Golf leads the Seniors with a 73.56 average.

In the Skippy Pasutti flight, Doe Emes won low gross honors and Kathy Dunn low net. They also were the overall Senior Championship winners.

Janet Petrosky won low gross in Seniors 50-59 while Sandra Marksberry took low net. Sahae Nakie and Mona Leslie were low gross and net winners, respectively, in Seniors 60-69 while Berta Kirchner won the Seniors' over-70 title.
