Casino operator selects Internet technology firm
Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 | 11:14 a.m.
Las Vegas-based casino operator MGM MIRAGE, which expects to launch an online gambling site this year, has selected Quova Inc. to provide online mapping services for the company's Internet venture in the Isle of Man.
The mapping service will ensure that MGM MIRAGE's site will block customers in areas where Internet gambling is illegal, the company said.
"We see Quova as one of the enabling technologies necessary to provide the highest level of jurisdictional compliance for our online operations," said Bill Hornbuckle, president and chief operating officer of MGM MIRAGE Online Isle of Man Ltd.
WagerWorks Inc., a San Francisco-based company that is helping casino companies launch online operations, connected MGM MIRAGE with Mountain View, Calif.-based Quova. WagerWorks is a development partner with Quova.
MGM MIRAGE was one of three companies to receive an Internet gambling license last year from the Isle of Man, a small island nation off the coast of Great Britain that has developed regulations governing online wagering.
