The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has approved a $4.4 million budget for marketing the city during the fourth quarter.
LVCVA spokeswoman Erika Brandvik said television advertising featuring the "Vegas Calling" theme currently being used nationwide will be used promote the city during a period when visitation is expected to be more than 8 percent ahead of last year's totals.
Rossi Ralenkotter, vice president of marketing for the LVCVA, said following last year's terrorist attacks the city has relied more on short-term ad campaigns.
For the first seven months of 2002, hotel and motel occupancy levels are at 85.4 percent, 3.2 points below the previous year's level. For the same period, visitor volume is down 2.3 percent to 20.7 million from the previous year and gross gaming revenue in Clark County is off 3.5 percent to $4.4 billion, the LVCVA said.
