Gaming numbers mixed elsewhere

SUN WIRE REPORTS

Adjusted gross receipts from the riverboat casinos in Illinois rose 1.13 percent for September to $145.1 million from $143.5 million the previous year, according to the Illinois Gaming Board.

Admissions for September were down 0.67 percent to 1.51 million, compared with 1.52 million in September 2001.

In Connecticut, the state's two Indian casinos generated more than $127 million in slot machine revenue during September.

Foxwoods Resort Casino on Tuesday reported a win of $66.3 million last month, ending the casino's fiscal year with a slot machine win of $793.6 million.

For the month, the casino contributed $16.5 million to the state.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, operator of Foxwoods, said its net win was $1.8 million below the same period last year.

"When you factor in the uncertain economy and the effects of the 9-11 anniversary, we think the numbers look good," said Bill Sherlock, Foxwoods' president and chief executive officer.

The Mohegan Sun reported a win of $60.6 million in September, that compared to $54 million during the same period a year ago, before a major expansion of the casino.

The Mohegan tribe's state contribution for the month was $15.1 million.

Connecticut's gambling compact calls for the casinos to pay 25 percent of slot winnings to the state.

And in Colorado, casinos reported $62.5 million in adjusted gross proceeds in September, up nearly 5 percent over the same month in 2001.

While revenues were greater than last year, they are down from the records set in July and August, when casinos collected $64.6 million each month.

The adjusted gross total is the difference between the money wagered and paid out by casinos.

Black Hawk's 20 casinos accounted for $44.4 million of the adjusted gross proceeds in September. Cripple Creek's 17 casinos generated $13.2 million, and Central City's five casinos generated $4.9 million.

Gambling tax revenue totaled $7.3 million in September.
