VINTON, La. -- More than 1 million visitors have spent more than $85 million at the state's first casino at a racetrack.
From its opening on Feb. 13 through Sept. 30, the machines at Delta Downs generated $85.6 million in winnings for the track, according to state police figures. About 1.1 million people have gone into the casino.
The track-casino owner, Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming Corp., said the casino has exceeded initial expectations. The company has spent nearly $8 million on track improvements.
From the proceeds, the state has collected $13.3 million in taxes, while Calacasieu Parish has received $2.4 million. Another $12.8 million, as required by law, has gone to supplement horse-racing purses.
