Letter: Let Bush drop bombs on Iraq
Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 | 8:55 a.m.
Toppling Saddam is exactly the right thing to do. This is not the time to listen to the surprising number of pacifists who must think it will be all status quo the rest of the way. We should stomp on all the crazy regimes we can find, whether it's the Taliban, Iraq, Iran, Syria or Libya. And our "friend" Saudi Arabia should be redefined, too.
Let President Bush go bombing. After all, we should be allowed to get something of value from this guy. Just agree with whatever reason for invading he is espousing that day and go with it.
Let his abysmal record of domestic leadership slide for awhile, and let his fat-cat pals continue to be the only ones doing well. We can wait till later before exposing him as perhaps our most corrupt president yet.
Hopefully, killing Saddam Hussein will send a message that we are serious about defending our homeland. Why allow countries that condone terrorism to carry on as they do? Nothing will ever be settled until we put the clamps on this form of treachery. Being the world's policeman has always fallen to us, and now we are the guardians.
If they hate us already, what do we care in the long run? The world has changed. It is"us against them" and it will be that way for a long, long time. We have to take a chance at cleaning it up. If we wait until they begin using their sleeper cells to distribute local terrorism, it will be too late.
