Letter: Facts abound in U.S. case against madman Saddam

Mike O'Callaghan, in his Sept. 22 column "The White House request," wrote that he thinks President Bush should give us more facts before the United States strikes Iraq. I respectfully disagree with our highly respected former governor. We have abundant facts we've read and heard from President Bush and the media that mandate we first strike Iraq to avoid its anticipated nuclear attack to kill millions of Americans and destroy our country.

This is a terrifying, deadly threat against all of us in the United States. It's not about involving the country in a foreign war. It's about saving Americans from a fiery death. Our president has told us he deeply fears Iraq will launch a nuclear attack if we don't stop it. I think most Americans believe this and support our president. But Mr. O'Callaghan, a true patriot, says our president hasn't seen the face of war as did his father, former President Bush, who provided adequate facts to back up our jumping into the Gulf War. No further facts, no U.N., I say. Only Congress' support is needed.

I'm persuaded we face a deadly threat from which we can save ourselves, only by paralyzing the foe that would kill us. Let's follow our president. And let's write our congressional leaders to enforce their duty to protect us citizens from attack by a foreign nation, as our president is now doing.
