BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. -- Twelve Gulf Coast casinos reopened Thursday afternoon after they were ordered closed by the Mississippi Gaming Commission because of high winds and rains brought on by tropical storm Lili.
Casinos at Natchez, Vicksburg and Greenville on the Mississippi River were expected to reopen this morning.
Cantrell Guice, a security guard at the Isle of Capri in Vicksburg, had the job of breaking the bad news to people who showed up at the casino looking to gamble Thursday.
"A lot of out of town people are coming in, including truck drivers, hoping to gamble but unfortunately the casino part is closed today," Guice said.
He said many of the visitors had driven up from southern Louisiana.
Louisiana State Police ordered Harrah's New Orleans Casino and nine riverboat casinos around the state to close Wednesday, but they all reopened Thursday.
