Kids will get a chance to dance

The Dance Zone will be offering two free days of dance classes for children 4 and up this weekend.

The classes are designed to allow youths a chance to try different styles of dance, make new friends and receive a free T-shirt. Participants will get a chance to be placed in one of the performance or competition teams.

Classes will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at 10890 S. Eastern Ave. For more information, call 897-5690.

Emergency soccer game set Friday

Southern Nevada firefighters will play against law enforcement officers in their sixth annual "Firefighters vs. Police Soccer Shootout" at 7 p.m. Friday at Johann Memorial Soccer Field at University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Fire and emergency medical personnel of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Clark County and Boulder City fire departments will play against officers from Metro, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City police.

Ballet Folklorico performs Saturday

The Ballet Folklorico Quetzalli de Veracruz will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the County Government Center amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Admission is $7 in advance; $10 at the gate; children under 10 are admitted.

Tickets are available at Borders Bookstores, La Torta Loca and Casa Latina Records, as well as through Clark County Parks and Community Services.

The amphitheater features lawn seating and ample free parking. Picnics are welcome, or food and beverages are available for purchase.

Take the time to Run With Scouts

The inaugural Run with the Scouts Character Counts 5K and 1 mile fun run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Scouting Resource Center, 7220 Paradise Road.

Race T-shirts will be provided for all participants, and 5K race awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners in 14 age divisions.

The Men of Brandeis

Councilman Larry Brown
