Early humans exhibit to open in Overton

Curious Las Vegas residents and visitors this week can experience how Southern Nevada's earliest residents lived, ate and hunted.

A new exhibit on early humans will open at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Lost City Museum in Overton, about 45 miles northeast of Las Vegas, on State Route 169 off Interstate 15.

Flint-making, atlatl and spear throwing demonstrations, American Indian beadwork and refreshments based on Indian recipes will be available until 4 p.m. Saturday.

Museum admission is free for the special opening day activities.

The exhibit is expected to remain open at least a year. The exhibit includes points and tools dating from the Paleo/Archaic period.

The Lost City Museum is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular admission charges are $2 for adults age 18 and over. Children and museum members are admitted at no charge.

The museum is currently owned and maintained by the state as one of six state museums.
