Letter: Question 2 opponents are spreading hate
Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 | 9:36 a.m.
After reading Jon Ralston's Oct. 27 column, "Question 2: It's all about love, not hate," it confirmed my opinion of his supposed intellect and professionalism. Ralston has missed the true basis for Question 2.
It is a very simple and straightforward initiative: to protect the sanctity of marriage, between one man and one woman, as currently defined by the state of Nevada. Ralston and others have turned the initiative into a "hate" issue instead of what the initiative is all about.
I guess because the initiative is so basic and straightforward, Ralston and others have a very difficult time in dealing with its simplicity. It is sad that Ralston had to make up motives about those who support Question 2 in order to cloud and poison the minds of those who are truly trying to understand the issues, in order to better our society.
Question 2 is about love, not hate. It seems that Ralston and others like him, who are against the protection of marriage initiative, are the true source of any hate that has been injected into this election year.
My sympathy is extended to Ralston for his incredible outpouring of ignorance and fiction that he portrayed in his column. I am truly surprised that Ralston would even put his name on his recent column; he is normally not such a writer of fiction.
My view and opinion of Jon now is that of a sad little man who needs to distort fact into fiction.
