United Way hires executive director

Dan Goulet, who has overseen operations of United Way agencies in Michigan and Florida, has been named president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Southern Nevada.

Goulet, who has more than 28 years of experience working in the United Way system, most recently was CEO of the United Way of Muskegon County, Mich. Before that he was responsible for the fund development of the $25 million campaign in Dade County, Fla.

Goulet, who will take the local post on June 24, was found during a nationwide search to replace longtime local United Way CEO Garth Winckler, who retired in December. Two interim CEOs have overseen operations since then. More than 100 applicants were considered for the job.

United Way of Southern Nevada funds more than 150 local programs that assist families, elderly and the poor.
