Blood donations sought for Tiffany
Friday, March 8, 2002 | 10:52 a.m.
Friends and family of Sandra Tiffany are asking those who wish to help to roll up their sleeves and donate a pint of blood for the hospitalized assemblywoman.
Her friend and fellow assemblywoman, Barbara Cegavske, who is keeping vigil at Tiffany's side in a California hospital, requested that donations be made at any local blood service location in Tiffany's name.
"Anybody can go, no matter the blood type," Cegavske said. "Sandra is going through a lot of blood, and there is a great need to replenish the bank."
Tiffany, R-Henderson, underwent emergency surgery Monday after suffering severe pains while aboard a plane to Sacramento. When the plane had its scheduled stop in Burbank, Tiffany was transported by ambulance to Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Tiffany is improving and periodically opening her eyes and responding to commands, said Lorne Malkiewich, a legislative spokesman.
Tiffany is undergoing dialysis after her kidneys failed. She has also experienced seizures, a heart attack and bleeding as a side effect of the medication, Cegavske said. Doctors say she has a 50-50 chance of recovery.
Blood donations should be earmarked for Sandra Tiffany at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center, 501 S. Buena Vista, Burbank, Calif., 91505.
