Wendy Kwai Lan Abear

Wendy Kwai Lan Abear, 37, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 26, 1964, in Honolulu. A resident for 12 years, she was a client supervisor assistant at Bank of America.

She is survived by her husband, David W.; one daughter, Adrienne I. Abear, and one son, Clayton K. Abear, both of Las Vegas; her parents, Frances L. and Alfred P. Balasbas of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; two brothers, Alan K.T. Balasbas of Fremont, Calif., and Warren K.H. Balasbas of Ewa Beach; and one sister, Cindy K.L. Gin of San Ramon, Calif.

Visitation is scheduled 1-7 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

Fehmi Anis Awad

Fehmi Anis Awad, 64, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Nazareth, Palestine. A resident for three years, he owned mini-marts in Flint, Mich.

He is survived by his wife, Carol L. Carabell; one son, Edward Awad of Las Vegas; four brothers, Joseph Awad and Waleed Awad, both of Nazareth, and Jason Awad and Hani Awad, both of Las Vegas; six sisters, Matilda Kurzum, Frida Awad, Hanan Moukabaa, Shadia Abusalem and Ghada Mashour, all of Nazareth, and Diana Faranesh of Las Vegas.

Services were scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., followed by burial in Paradise Memorial Gardens, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Garfield 'Lee' Berwick

Garfield "Lee" Berwick, 77, of Pahrump died Monday in Pahrump. He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in North Dakota. A resident for 30 years, he owned Berwick's Radiator Shop since 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; one daughter, Ann Brod of Pahrump; three sons, Danny Berwick of Idaho, Mark Berwick of California and Glenn Berwick of Pahrump; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Road, is handling arrangements.

Donald Bruce

Donald Bruce, 51, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born March 22, 1951, in Massachusetts. A resident for many years, he was an investor.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Quincy, Mass. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Viola I. Charlton

Viola I. Charlton, 72, of Las Vegas died Sunday. She was born June 25, 1929, in Madison, Neb. A resident for 40 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard; two daughters, Diana Ragsdale of Las Vegas and Linda Cockrell of North Las Vegas; two sisters, Murine Garatee of Hemet, Calif., and Mary Daley of Marysville, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will follow Saturday in Palm Memorial Park.

Urbino Correia

Urbino Correia, 53, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 20, 1948, in Portugal. A resident for 10 years, he was a laborer for Tee Shirts of Nevada.

He is survived by his companion, Anna McDonald of Las Vegas; and one daughter, Maureen Correia of Peabody, Mass.

Visitation is scheduled 9-11:45 a.m. Friday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will follow at noon Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Edith Duenas

Edith Duenas, 48, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. A housekeeper at the Gold Strike, she was born Dec. 2, 1953, in El Salvador.

She is survived by one sister, Leticia Duenas of Los Angeles.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Los Angeles. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Stanley M. Fried

Stanley M. Fried, 83, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. He was born May 30, 1919, in New York City. A resident for 25 years, he was a retired founder and president of Cuzzens Inc. and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Andrew G. Fried of Agua Dulce, Calif.; two daughters, Ellen L. Matheson of Orange, Calif., and Beverly S. Goetz of Tustin, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Genevieve Gardner

Genevieve Gardner, 85, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Kansas. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired retail sales agent in the hotel industry.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan Holecheck of Las Vegas.

James W. Griffiths

James W. Griffiths, 45, of Tokyo died Friday. He was born Aug. 24, 1956, in Salt Lake City. A resident for nine years, he was editor of Newsweek Japan, a member of the International Press Club in Tokyo and a Western High School graduate.

He is survived by his mother, Jeanne M. Griffiths of Las Vegas; his father, Richard G. Griffiths of Yuma, Ariz.; three brothers, R. Michael Griffiths of Fresno, Calif., Robert D. Griffiths of Falls Church, Va., and John C. Griffiths of Las Vegas; and one sister, Pamela G. Schoessow of Buffalo Grove, Ill.

Visitation is scheduled 30 minutes prior to a 10 a.m. service Monday in the LDS Meadows Sixth Ward, 5800 Carl Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest, 5701 N. Jones Blvd. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth 'Sis' Healy

Elizabeth "Sis" Healy, 85, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Chicago. A resident for 24 years, she was a retired civil service computer analyst.

She is survived by one brother, Edward Healy of Las Vegas.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today with a 6:30 p.m. rosary and 8-9:30 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Charles Ralph Ho Ching

Charles Ralph Ho Ching, 80, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. He was born March 24, 1922, in Utulei, American Samoa. A resident for one year, he was a retired merchant.

He is survived by his wife, Talaitupu Soliai; five sons, Charles Ho Ching of Arizona, Tuputausi Reid, Beaver T. Ho Ching and Joseph Toloa'i Ho Ching, all of American Samoa and Faifatu Ralph Ho Ching of San Diego; two daughters, Lefaga Dale Schwenke and Faifua Helene Tumanuvao, both of Las Vegas; 74 grandchildren and 109 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 45 minutes prior to an 11 a.m. service Saturday in the Legacy Ward-Green Valley Stake, 410 N. Valle Verde Drive in Henderson. Burial will be in American Samoa. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Rita 'Jody' Jackson

Rita "Jody" Jackson, 73, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Henderson. She was born Sept. 3, 1928, in Kansas. A resident for 18 years, she was a cashier, deputy sheriff and homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Charles "Jack"; two daughters, Phyllis of Las Vegas and Stana of Elko; three brothers, Matt Schommer, Don Schommer and Walt Schommer, and one sister, Kathy, all of Kansas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday in Bible Fellowship Church in Alamo. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Wayne L. Joffs

Wayne L. Joffs, 53, of Henderson died Wednesday in Henderson. He was born Aug. 12, 1948, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 12 years, he was a pharmacist, a member of the U.S. Golf Association, active in the Boy Scouts of America and served as scoutmaster for 10 years.

He is survived by three daughters, Cassandra Joffs, Charlotte Jensen and Cosette Joffs, all of Henderson; two sons, Ben Joffs of Henderson and Brigham Joffs of Pueblo, Mexico, serving an LDS mission; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 30 minutes prior to a 3 p.m. service Saturday in the LDS Southpoint Ward chapel. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

The family suggests donations to the missionary fund of the LDS Church.

Phyllis Thaler Kaufman

Phyllis Thaler Kaufman, 70, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 15, 1932, in New York City. A resident for eight years, she was a retired teacher/administrator and a member of the Sun City Dance Co.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard; one daughter, L. Tyler Orion of Del Mar, Calif.; one son, Shawn Skylark of Concord, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

Vance Martin

Vance Martin, 68, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Warren, Ark. A resident for three years, he was a retired restaurateur and a Korean War Navy veteran.

He is survived by one son, Fred Martin of Las Vegas; one daughter, Paula Steward of San Diego; four brothers, J.T. Lawson of Warren and Jimmie Lee Lawson, James Billy Lawson and Willie T. Martin; seven sisters, Mittue Hampton, Willie B. Moore, Mary Lee Matta, Catherine McCory, Joann Martin, Annie Ruth Martin and Martha Sue Martin; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 2-5 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Greater Bethel Deliverance Church of God in Christ, 976 Hassell Ave.

Rose McKenna

Rose McKenna, 87, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Chicago. A resident for 47 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Montero Meadows Welcoming Committee.

She is survived by one son, Jordan North of Provo, Utah; one sister, Faye Zwerling of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Sunday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Manuel Navarro-Sanchez

Manuel Navarro-Sanchez, 65, of Las Vegas died June 20 in Las Vegas. He was born July 25, 1936, in Mexico. A resident for seven years, he was a self-employed truck driver/salesman of fruit.

He is survived by his wife, Raquel Torres; five sons, Gerardo Navarro-Torres, Manuel Navarro-Torres, Hector Navarro-Torres, Saul Navarro-Torres and Mario Navarro-Torres, and two daughters, Raquel Navarro-Torres and Irma Navarro-Torres, all of Las Vegas; two brothers; three sisters; and 20 grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 1 p.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., followed by burial in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Walter Dotton

Walter Dotton, 53, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born July 6, 1948, in Pennsylvania. A resident for 12 years, he was a journeyman cement mason.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel; two sons, Walter Dotton III and Scott Dotton; one daughter, Chames Dotton; and two grandchildren.

Mary O'Sullivan

Mary O'Sullivan, 61, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born March 23, 1941, in Missouri. A resident for many years, she was an executive secretary.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph.

Edna Paradise

Edna Paradise, 80, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 25, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for six months, she was retired and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carole Mancino.

She is survived by her husband, William; one son, Robert Paradise of Las Vegas; one brother, Arthur Olson of Kunkletown, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Ida Pearson

Ida Pearson, 92, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 5, 1909, in Boston. A resident for 2 1/2 years, she was a retired clothing store cashier.

She is survived by one daughter, Rita Keary of Las Vegas; one son, Stanley Pearson of Stuart, Fla.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane.

Albert Viernes, 90, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born April 6, 1912, in the Philippines. A resident for many years, he was a laboratory technician.

Eddie J. Wright Sr.

Eddie J. Wright Sr., 93, of North Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. He was born Dec. 14, 1908, in Ellison, Ark. A resident for 48 years, he was a building contractor.

He is survived by seven sons, Elder Eddie J. Wright Jr., Clinton Wright, Pastor Tony Wright and Elder Ray Wright, all of Las Vegas, the Rev. Alton L. Wright and Minister Robert E. Wright, both of San Jose, Calif., and Dr. Carlton J. Wright of Modesto, Calif.; two daughters, Arnette Green and Emma J. Daniels, and three sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Mother Verna M. Ware and Mssy. Loyce Hall, all of Las Vegas; three brothers, Elder Ernest Wright of Hot Springs, Ark., Elder Frank J. Wright Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., and Bishop Earl J. Wright of Detroit; 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.
