Man dies in nightclub shooting

Metro Police are investigating a shooting at a nightclub Saturday that left one man dead.

Police are seeking Thomas Potter, 26, of Las Vegas, to talk to him about the shooting. Police did not say Potter was a suspect, only that they want to speak to him.

Police report that witnesses said a man entered the Mariachi Cantina Nightclub in the 500 block of East Sahara Avenue and got into an argument with at least one other person. Shots were then fired and at least one person was hit.

The wounded man was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died, police said. The slain man's name was not released this morning.

Potter is described as a white man with blond hair, blue eyes, about 6-foot-4 and weighing about 250 pounds. He is known to drive a white two-door Jeep Cherokee with Nevada license plates 413 NED.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro Police at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Supreme Court cases to be aired

Las Vegas ONE, the local news cable station, will televise live this week coverage of Nevada Supreme Court arguments in two high-profile criminal cases.

Arguments in the case of motorist Jessica Williams, whose accident on Interstate 15 killed six teens, will air Tuesday at 1:25 p.m. on Cox Cable Channels 1 and 39.

The appeals of Ted Binion murderers Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish will be aired 8:25 a.m. Thursday.

The live broadcast of state Supreme Court hearings will be a television first for the Las Vegas Valley's only all-news cable channel, which operates in partnership with the Las Vegas Sun, KLAS Channel 8 and Cox Communications.

Williams is appealing her conviction of driving under the influence when her van hit and killed six Las Vegas teenagers working on a cleanup crew on March 19, 2000.

Murphy and Tabish are seeking to overturn their convictions in the Sept. 17, 1998, slaying of wealthy casino executive Binion.

Teen sought in death of girl, 14

A 14-year-old girl was shot to death outside her home in the 1300 block of Oahu Street after a heated argument with her 14-year-old boyfriend as the girl's 12-year-old brother and a 2-year-old sibling watched.

Police allege Ramiro Lopez went to the house about midnight Sunday to talk to MonaLisa Nava. The brother, holding the 2-year-old, came outside with the girl as she talked. Nava and her boyfriend argued and Nava was shot, police said.

Police are looking for Lopez, also known as "Demon," a Hispanic male, 5-foot-4 and weighing 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white shirt underneath a vest and black trousers. He was seen driving from the scene in a red Honda.

Police urge anyone with information to call Secret Witness at 385-5555 or the Homicide Section at 229-3521.

Those arrested were Jimmy Leung, Aziz Massomipour, Asatour Magzahian, Arshad Hussain, Hans Walton, Sulaiman Zalmai, Mohammad Nadery, Ashraf Ispahani, Henry Davis and Jaman Khan.

Firefighters revive dog in house blaze

An accidental fire caused $10,000 worth of damage to a northwest Las Vegas home Saturday afternoon, but firefighters were able to revive a pet dog found at the scene, investigators said.

The 46-year-old owner was treated for smoke inhalation after a rear bedroom in his home near Vegas Drive and Rainbow Boulevard caught fire. Firefighters found a 50-pound pitbull lying lifeless in the house as they searched for more victims. They revived the animal and the dog was up and walking around before they left the scene, firefighters said.

The fire gutted the back bedroom, and the rest of the house suffered smoke damage. The American Red Cross is aiding three adults with temporary housing.
