Car-rental rates in Las Vegas vary by nearly 200 percent for the same vehicle from company to company, a AAA survey says.
A survey by AAA of Northern California called the eight top rental companies in 10 cities and priced a compact car rental without any discounts. In Las Vegas, AAA found Thrifty to have the least-expensive rate at $43.37 while Avis had the most expensive at $125.83, a 190 percent variance.
On average, rates varied by 77 percent within the 10 locations, with Las Vegas having the greatest variation and Chicago having the least at 18 percent. Following Las Vegas were Orlando, Fla.; Los Angeles and San Francisco (tied); Washington, D.C.; Maui; New York; Phoenix; San Diego; and Chicago.
A AAA spokesman encouraged customers to shop around to get the best rate available and offered no explanation of why Las Vegas rates vary so much.
