Death penalty sought in killing

Prosecutors said Monday they intend to seek the death penalty for a Las Vegas man accused of sexually assaulting and killing an 84-year-old woman.

Glenn Mundo, 29, has been charged with open murder, along with sexual assault, robbery, burglary and grand larceny auto in connection with the June 2001 death of Virginia Peart.

The 84-year-old woman's son found her body on the floor of her home near Owens Avenue and Nellis Boulevard on June 25, 2001. An autopsy showed she had been asphyxiated.

Police said Mundo told them he strangled and raped Peart when she awoke up while he was burglarizing her home.
