News to them: Las Vegas psychics unlock information gate to 2002
Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002 | 8:38 a.m.
Americans like their food fast, their success overnight and their gratification instant.
To appease those speed demons who just can't wait, the Sun has interviewed a number of professional psychics. Their prognostications, in effect, might give us the news before it happens and you can't get much faster than that.
Remember you read it first in the Sun when others learn that Will Smith has won the Oscar for Best Actor in the film "Ali" and that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have reunited; that Mayor Oscar Goodman has decided to run for an even higher office and that blind people will see.
Tarek Hage Mouras, 64, predicts there will be more war in 2002 a safe prediction considering there seems to have been a war every year for the past 2,002 years.
Tarek, who says he learned he had psychic abilities when growing up in his native Lebanon, moved to Las Vegas 20 years ago because of war in his country.
"I am so sorry to see more negative things coming (in 2002)," said Tarek, whose office is at 4110 S. Maryland Parkway.
Besides more war and terrorism, "There will be too much heat this summer, too much cold this winter."
Tarek commented on a number of people and events that will be in the news during the next 12 months:
Blind will see
Christina Savas, who reads fortunes at Innerspace at the Luxor, doesn't believe in making predictions or reading minds.
"I don't like the word 'prediction,' " Savas, 42, said. "You can see things -- there are visions. I tell you what my impressions are."
Savas grew up in a Greek household where she says her father had prophetic dreams, an aunt read tea leaves and other relatives had various other psychic talents.
Savas said terrorism will continue in the months ahead, perpetrated by "loose cannons" who will wreak havoc, though not at the magnitude of New York City.
"I keep getting this Midwest feeling," Savas said. "They want to go somewhere there, or Texas. Someplace where ships come in a lot.
"There will be more terrorism overseas than here."
Other impressions from Savas:
Trances are ...
Cheryl Johnson, 46, says she learned she had psychic powers when growing up in Iowa, but did not start making a living at it until about 10 years ago after studying the craft in Arizona.
About three years ago Johnson moved to Las Vegas, where she reads fortunes for the Psychic Eye Book Shop at 6848 W. Charleston Blvd.
Before contacting spirits on the other side, Johnson puts herself into a hypnotic trance and forwards information from the "spirit world" to this one.
Some of the messages she passed along:
Cattel's calls
Cattel, the only name she uses, has been a psychic in Las Vegas for the past 19 years. She was born into an American military family in Panama and has lived in many cities around the country.
"To me, some things are preordained," said the 50-year-old Cattel, whose office is at 1555 E. Flamingo Road."But a lot of prophecies can be changed."
Each year she prepares a list of prophecies. Among those she sees for the coming year are:
