Letter: Pay us for taking garbage

The answer to the Yucca Mountain nuclear storage debate is simple. Do what was done in Alaska when its citizens objected to the Alaskan oil pipeline. The oil companies gave millions of dollars to the Alaskan government. Then, every citizen in Alaska was set up to receive an annual payment from the government. Suddenly the majority of Alaskans were for the pipeline.

Just like we pay to have our garbage hauled away, all those wishing to have their nuclear waste stored in Nevada must pay. If every Nevada citizen were promised an annual payment of some sort, the vast majority of Nevada residents would suddenly be for the Yucca Mountain storage site.
