DA looks into claim of beating

Metro Police officers this morning were scheduled to meet with a group of prosecutors to discuss the possibility of filing charges against an officer accused of hitting a man who was handcuffed.

District Attorney Stewart Bell said he and members of his case assessment team would meet with investigators regarding allegations involving Frankie Davis and Officer David D. Miller.

Davis alleges that security officers at the Las Vegas Club arrested him at the Fremont Street hotel and then beat, teased and taunted him after he had been handcuffed.

"We'll have six copies of the package made and then each of us will study it so we can decide where to go from there," Bell said. "I expect their investigation will have been thorough. This situation demands that no stone be left unturned no matter which side the chips may fall."

Davis claims that Miller slammed his head into a wall and punched him as Davis was on the ground, still handcuffed.

Davis, who has filed a federal lawsuit against the police department and the hotel, said his neck was broken in the incident, much of which was videotaped.
