Vandals hit car windows

Henderson Police are hoping to catch vandals who are breaking out car windows before they strike again.

Over the past two weekends Henderson Police have received more than 40 reports of windows being broken out of cars, Officer Shane Lewis, department spokesman, said.

The vandals target cars parked in residential driveways and don't seem to have a identifiable pattern.

"It's pretty random," Lewis said. "We'll find one or two on one street and then a couple more a few streets over.

"They aren't stealing anything, they're just running around breaking windows."

The vandals mainly break out the rear window of the cars or one of the rear passenger windows. Police believe that the windows may have been broken by thrown objects, such as marbles or rocks, and are done drive-by style.

About 80 percent of the vandalism has occurred in the Whitney Ranch area, bounded by Sunset Road, Patrick Lane, Stephanie Street and Whitney Bluff.

The other broken windows have been found spread across different areas of Henderson, Lewis said.

If caught, those responsible could be facing gross misdemeanors or even felonies. It will depend on the damage, Lewis said.

Causing damage of $250 to $5,000 is a gross misdemeanor, but damage of more than $5,000 is a felony.
