School District facilities chief going to Florida

Patrick Herron, the Clark County School District's assistant superintendent of facilities, will leave his post Jan. 26 for a similar position in Orange County, Fla., local school officials said.

Herron, who was with the School District for five years, will head a voter-approved, $2 billion-dollar school construction and renovation program in the Florida community that includes Orlando.

Herron, who currently is paid about $98,000 a year, was one of 75 applicants for the Orange County post that pays $115,909, the Orlando Sentinel reported in its Saturday editions.

Herron came to Las Vegas in 1997 from the Wake County School District in North Carolina. The next year, Clark County voters approved a $3.5 billion school construction program.

During Herron's tenure in Clark County, 58 schools were built: six high schools, 13 middle schools, 38 elementary schools and one alternative school. Twelve schools are under construction in Clark County, the school district said

Herron is slated to start his new job Jan. 27.
