Kids need a vacation from stress

Many children who apply for assistance from the Sun Camp Fund just need a vacation and a break away from the stress and trauma at home. One 10-year-old boy who made the honor roll last school year is having a hard time now, his mother says, because his grandfather is terminally ill.
"It would be good for him to get away from the family stress and enjoy the outdoors," his father says.
A caseworker who recommended a 14-year-old boy for a campership says his family is in the midst of conflict and is trying to work out their problems. However, she believes the boy needs some time away. "It would help his self-image and give him leisure time to relax," the caseworker says.
A 13-year-old girl says she has been helping her sick mother and caring for her sister. "I just want a little vacation," she says.
Sometimes simple things, such as toasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire and spending time around camp counselors who are positive role models are the memories that a child will carry with her through the rest of her life.
By joining contributors to the Las Vegas Sun Camp Fund you are making a difference in a child's life.
