Man, 76, gets six years for crash

A 76-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday in connection with a May 2001 traffic accident that killed a Bullhead City, Ariz., man one day after the victim turned 23.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Gary Booker said Kingman, Ariz., resident Herbert Kennedy will have to serve at least one year in prison before becoming eligible for parole.

Kennedy pleaded guilty to reckless driving for driving through a red light at State Route 163 and Casino Drive in Laughlin on May 18, 2001, and colliding with Thomas Perez's vehicle, killing him.

Booker said that Kennedy told District Judge Jeffrey Sobel he was suffering a heart attack when he drove through light, but it was the first time Kennedy had ever offered that explanation.

Plea deal made in shooting death

A 20-year-old Las Vegas man who allegedly killed an acquaintance for his Playstation 2 video game has entered a plea agreement.

Cedric Flemons pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and robbery with use of a deadly weapon in the Dec. 28, 2001, shooting death of Robert Lashley, 19.

As a result of the deal, District Judge Joseph Bonaventure will give Flemons a 20-year to life sentence on the murder charge Oct. 24. The judge will decide on that date whether a four- to 30-year robbery sentence will be run concurrently or consecutively.
