Hurdles remain, analysts say

Despite a number of projects that seem to have created a momentum for downtown Las Vegas development, real estate analysts say that momentum is tenuous.

In Business Las Vegas, a sister newspaper to the Las Vegas Sun, reported this week that analysts say a lack of middle-class and professional residents, an aging infrastructure and a scarcity of incentives promoting downtown development could all hamper the area's future.

Said John Restrepo of Restrepo Consulting Group: "Until we have an effort from both the public and private sectors where downtown becomes a place where middle- and upper-class families want to live, we won't see a complete revitalization."

Restrepo said the city could participate more in assembling parcels for private development.
