Plea deal made in fatal shooting

A Las Vegas man charged with murder after allegedly shooting a man who was trying to stop him from committing suicide has entered a plea agreement.

Danilo DelRosario, 40, could receive probation or a one to four-year prison term after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael O'Callaghan.

O'Callaghan said an intoxicated DelRosario was depressed about the death of his father when he decided to kill himself on July 30, 2001.

A group of people with DelRosario at the time jumped on him in an attempt to get the gun away, and Joel Aguilar, 28, was shot in the chest and died.

DelRosario was charged with murder because the law says that someone who kills someone involuntarily during a crime that, by its very nature, could result in the loss of life, is guilty of second-degree murder.

It is a crime to be in possession of a weapon while intoxicated, O'Callaghan said.

DelRosario will be sentenced by District Judge Michael Cherry Oct. 4.
