Free Sept. 11 LV seats went quickly

Seats to and from Las Vegas that were given away in a Sept. 11 promotion by Spirit Airlines went quickly, a spokeswoman for the company said today.

Laura Bennett, a spokeswoman for the Mirimar, Fla.-based airline, said it took less than eight hours for the company to fill 13,400 seats Wednesday and flights to Las Vegas and Los Angeles received the most inquiries.

Spirit has one round trip a day between Las Vegas and Detroit, so the company offered a total of 150 free seats for travel to and from Las Vegas on Sept. 11 in a promotion that drew more than 100,000 telephone calls.

The promotion to give away free tickets on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks will cost Spirit about $500,000, but it also spurred travel on return trips.
