Bank robbery suspect arrested

Metro Police and the FBI arrested Kevin Lee Mathews, 38, as a suspect in an armed bank robbery Wednesday.

A man entered the Bank of America at 3150 N. Rainbow Blvd., presenting a device to tellers that he claimed to be a bomb, FBI special agent in charge Ellen Knowlton said.

He demanded money, collected cash in a duffle bag and fled, leaving the device on the counter.

A Nevada Parole and Probation officer in the bank at the time of the robbery pursued the suspect, who was apprehended by Metro patrol officers.

The bank was evacuated and the Las Vegas Bomb Squad responded to assess the device, which turned out not to be a bomb, officials said.

The suspect is in federal custody awaiting an initial appearance in U.S. District Court.
