MICAH SCHNURSTEIN
School: Basic
Class: Senior
Sport: Baseball
Last week: The Wolves' starting third baseman went 6-for-10 with three doubles, a home run and eight RBIs to lead his team to wins over Sierra Vista, Mojave and Silverado. After driving in two runs against both the Mountain Lions and Rattlers, Schnurstein helped Basic open Southeast Division play with a 5-3 victory over the Skyhawks, blasting a fifth-inning grand slam. "That was a clutch hit for us," Wolves coach Mike Kazek said. "Micah's had a good year, and the word is out to pitch around him, but that's tough to do when the bases are loaded."
April Keith
School: Eldorado
Class: Senior
Sport: Softball
Last week: The Sundevils' starting shortstop drove in seven runs to help her squad open Northeast Division play with back-to-back wins over Las Vegas and Rancho. Against the Wildcats, Keith cleared the bases with a triple and scored Eldorado's fourth run in a narrow 4-3 victory. The next day, she belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning to put the Sundevils up for good in an eventual 8-6 win over the Rams. "That's why she hits fourth for us -- she's there to clean up the bases," Eldorado coach Anthony Elliott. "She's been coming through for us all year."
