Museum honors LV attorney Di Palma

The Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York will honor Las Vegas attorney and investor Joseph Di Palma next month for his contributions to the institution.

At a private reception to be held Oct. 29 at the museum, Kay Allaire, Cooper-Hewitt's Board of Trustees chairwoman, and museum director Paul Warwick will give Di Palma an award and admit him to the Smithsonian Benefactors Circle.

Di Palma, executive director of the Di Palma Position Papers, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit editorial think tank, has supported Cooper-Hewitt in various ways.

He co-sponsored a number of the museum's exhibitions, including one that featured his family jewelry. He also helped the Smithsonian establish the Di Palma Center for the Study of Jewelry and Precious Metals at the Cooper-Hewitt in 1997.

Di Palma also underwrites the PBS business news program, "Nightly Business Report," and founded the Di Palma Forum at UNLV, a discussion show dedicated to the debate of national issues.
