Green Town Hall will review energy groups
Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001 | 10:17 a.m.
Boulder City residents will have a chance to decide how to spend $3 million on energy efficient municipal equipment at a "Green Town Hall" meeting Thursday, the first of a series.
The meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Department, 900 Arizona St., will include 20 energy groups with booths demonstrating the efficiencies gained through use of electric and propane powered vehicles, recycled water and other energy-saving devices.
Boulder City pulled out of the Clark County air-quality plan earlier this year before approving plans for a 600 megawatt, natural-gas fired plant in the Eldorado Valley, about 17 miles southwest of downtown.
That exit should allow the city more flexibility in the use of $3 million that the power plant must pay to offset expected air pollution. In the Clark County program, the city would have been limited to planting trees or paving roads with the money.
Before the city actually receives any money, the Clark County Health District and the Environmental Protection Agency will have to also approve the power plant application.
