Attacks prompt Vegas police to cancel National 911 Day ceremony

The airborne attacks prompted Las Vegas police to cancel a Tuesday ceremony marking National 911 Day.
"We had to divert our attention to the national events," said police Officer Tirso Dominguez said.
The department had planned to hold a ceremony at its communications center to recognize dispatchers and spotlight the job they do.
The terrorist attack on America's seats of finance and government, along with reports about cellular telephone calls from hijacked airlines, tragically highlighted the communications and emergency system.
President Ronald Reagan in 1987 proclaimed Sept. 11 as National 911 Day.
