Pet shop owner gets 15 years in meth case

A Las Vegas pet shop owner was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison Wednesday for selling chemicals that could be used to make methamphetamine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Ko said U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson on Wednesday sentenced Carlos Bertolo to 188 months in prison.

A jury in June found Bertolo guilty on 12 money laundering and 15 drug-related charges after a two-day trial.

Records show that Bertolo, who owned the Animals of Paradise store, bought and distributed more than 2 tons of iodine crystals and more than 400 pounds of red phosphorous.
