Las Vegas climbs to 14th best in city survey
Friday, May 11, 2001 | 2 a.m.
The Las Vegas area has climbed to 14th on the annual Forbes-Milken Institute national ranking of the "Best Places in America to Do Business," largely due to the area's salary and job growth.
Las Vegas was ranked 30th last year. Metropolitan areas were ranked according to wage and salary growth, job growth, and high-tech output growth, among other criteria.
Las Vegas was first in job growth from 1995 to 2000, and third in the same category from 1999 to 2000. McAllen, Texas, and Boulder, Colo. were the two metro areas to surpass Las Vegas in that subcategory.
Las Vegas ranked fifth in wage and salary growth from 1998 to 1999, but was weighed down by the tech sector, ranking 95th out of 200 cities from 1995 to 2000.
