Columnist Muriel Stevens: Restaurant options are bountiful on Mother’s Day

Mother's Day is one of the busiest restaurant days of the year, so if you haven't already made reservations for brunch or dinner, don't delay.

Station buffets, cafes and restaurants will feature Mother's Day specials in addition to their regular menus. The variety is endless.

Short orders

Junior League cookbook: Junior League of Las Vegas has a new cookbook, "Glitter to Gourmet," that will make a lasting Mother's Day gift. Available at Barnes & Noble, Borders Books, Neiman Marcus and by calling the Junior League office 822-6536.

Las Vegas International show: The 22nd Annual Las Vegas International Hotel and Restaurant Show will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center June 21-22. More than 350 exhibitors will showcase thousands of new products and services. The opening event, the always glorious Epicurean Affair will be held at the Mirage June 20. The exhibits are for the trade, only; Epicurean Affair is open to the public. Advance tickets ($100) are available through Ticketmaster; at the door, $125. Call 474-4000. American Express is offering a "Ten Plus One" special -- one free ticket with the purchase of 10 tickets on an AMEX card.

F&B Directors postpone event: The Food & Beverage Directors Association of Nevada has postponed the 10th Annual Awards Evening scheduled for May 25. The event will be rescheduled in July.

New name for Sam's American: Sam's American restaurant at Bellagio is now just plain Sam's. No matter what you call it, it's just plain good. The best of American regional cuisine is prepared by Executive Chef John Schenk. Free-range pork chops and apple-wood grilled Prime hamburger are among the many American specialties. A pre-theater dinner is offered daily, 5-6 p.m. For reservations or more information call 693-7223.
