A 12-year-old boy remained in critical condition at University Medical Center this morning after being thrown from a sport utility vehicle in a collision near the intersection of Eugene Avenue and Jones Boulevard.
Metro Police said the accident occurred about 1:30 a.m., when a Chevrolet Blazer, traveling southbound on Jones Boulevard, was struck by a Mercury Sable after the driver of the Sable failed to stop at a stop sign.
Police said the 16-year-old driver of the Sable continued driving after the collision and stopped at the Oasis Hills Apartments, 2121 N. Jones Blvd., where two of his passengers fled the scene on foot.
Police said the 12-year-old boy was not wearing a seatbelt. They said alcohol may have been a contributing factor, and charges are pending against the driver of the Sable, who was in good condition at UMC.
