Letter: Casinos should conserve energy
Tuesday, July 17, 2001 | 9:45 a.m.
Regarding rolling blackouts in Las Vegas:
Homeowners and renters will have to sacrifice some of their lifestyles, but I think the casinos can sacrifice a little, too. They can change their hours, such as closing from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. These several hours that the casinos could close down would save much-needed electricity (they would only have to close at these hours during the hot summer months).
I think the executives could find a way to do this without laying off employees. The casinos know how to make money, so I think they can change the schedules to work around the employees and still keep themselves in business.
In the long run everyone will have their lights on and also keep the economy going.
