Joe Delaney remembers 1976: Redd Foxx at the Thunderbird

Those who went to see Redd Foxx, who was billed as the star of the hit television sitcom "Sanford and Son," were in for a surprise at the Thunderbird. Foxx, came into prominence recording comedy party albums sold from under the counter in record stores. His comedy timing was impeccable but X-rated. In the 1970s and '80s he worked Las Vegas showrooms, mainly at the Hacienda, with comedians including the late Slappy White and Bernie Allen, still active, and dancer Prince Spencer. He made a major comeback on television with "The Redd Foxx Show," with Della Reese as his co-star before suffering a fatal heart attack in 1991.
