Clark County’s first high school for adults opens doors

The Clark County School District's first adult high school, complete with its own principal, opened its doors Tuesday at the former Faith Lutheran High School.

The school is at 1251 Robin St., west of Martin Luther King Boulevard between Washington and Owens avenues.

School district spokeswoman Mary Stanley-Larsen said the district acquired the building and has completely remodeled and renovated it in order to offer more classroom space and parking for adults who want to earn a high school diploma.

The program will include all of the traditional adult education courses and programs, including registration and classes, which were offered at the former office for adult education, located at 2701 E. Saint Louis Ave.

The district also will continue to offer adult classes at 39 satellite sites.

Students will have the option of attending the school full time, depending on the number of courses they take. Fees range from $5 to $15 per class.

"It has been the alternative education division's goal to develop a high school entirely devoted to adult education," said Stanley-Larsen. "We want to improve the availability of education in the community."

All students will be expected to take the district's required curriculum and pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Exam. Testing for the General Equivalency Exam will be provided.

More than 10,000 people a year are served by the district's adult education program, Stanley-Larsen said.
