CARSON CITY -- A proposal that would grant the city of Las Vegas more ease in annexing county islands was introduced Monday in the Assembly.
Assembly Bill 179 would allow annexation if the governing body receives a written statement from the other government entity stating it does not object to annexation.
Currently the owners of 75 percent of the lots within the area must sign a petition requesting annexation into a given municipality.
The bill was referred to the Assembly Government Affairs Committee. If passed the measure would take effect July 1.
