Black History Month celebrations planned

Local organizations are holding events to mark Black History Month through February.

An African-American cultural celebration and luncheon, "Celebration of Culture V," will begin with a show at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Clark County Library Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Cost of the luncheon is $10 per person, while the program is free.

Festivities will include song, dance and educational segments highlighting black culture. Local entertainer Clint Holmes will be the master of ceremonies.

RSVP for the luncheon by Wednesday at 455-8200.

North Las Vegas is hosting an African American Heritage event from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the North Las Vegas Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce St.

Artists' interpretations of their heritage will be on display, poetry recited, soul food served and African dancers performing.
