Combine tourist traffic with major thoroughfares for local traffic, and the result is Metro Police's top 10 most accident-prone intersections.
Metro statistics show the worst intersection for accidents is Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. Of the more than 30,000 accidents reported last year, 359 were within 200 feet of that crossroads.
Intersections in tourist areas accounted for another four of the 10 worst: Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, with 307 accidents; Paradise Road and Tropicana, with 319; Tropicana and Koval Lane, with 233; and the roadways in and around McCarran International Airport, with 216.
The top intersection for accidents outside a tourist area was Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard, with 263, ranking it number four on the overall list.
The majority of the accidents Metro counted occurred within 200 feet of the intersection.
