Chamber will present seminar

Frank W. Abangale will present a seminar on fraud prevention for the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Riviera hotel.

Abangale, a former check passer, is recognized as one of the world's most knowledgeable experts in the areas of check fraud, forgery, embezzlement and secure documents.

A free home buyers' seminar

Canine Assistants looks for clients

Canine Assistants, a nonprofit organization that trains and provides service dogs for the disabled, is searching for Las Vegans who need the dogs. Recipients are not asked to pay.

The dogs are able to perform a variety of tasks, including opening doors, turning on lights, retrieving dropped objects and pulling wheelchairs, allowing an individual increased mobility and greater self-reliance.

Valley student heads to D.C.

Marco Velotta, a 16-year-old Valley High School student, has been named one of 350 outstanding National Scholars, and will attend next week's National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.

The conference runs from Tuesday through Feb. 11 and is designed to help students develop leadership skills.

The conference is put on by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, a nonprofit educational organization founded in 1985.
