Letter: ‘Notch Babies’ ignored again
Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 | 9:38 a.m.
First it was Rep. Dan Rostenkowski, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, who put the kibosh on correcting the wrongs in the Social Security laws that discriminated against the "Notch Babies." Now Congress and the president, with a surplus in the Treasury, still ignore this grievous error.
They have given the richest in the land a major tax break, bailed out industries and insurance companies in the wink of an eye, but ignored the injustice committed against a segment of the population. They are talking about a stimulus package in Washington, but has anyone suggested including a correction of policy to correct this injustice? Yet they do not recognize that this is the group of citizens who fought World War II and helped established the bases upon which our current strong economy rests.
Are they waiting for all of the "Notch Babies" to die off, and then say we are sorry you were taken advantage of, and then we ignored you?
It sounds to me like a conspiracy committed against this group and no one gives a damn. Obviously not Congress, not the president.
