I am writing to expand upon Frank Pelteson's Aug. 21 letter:
While doctors by accident kill many more people than guns do deliberately, it does not mean that guns are a health hazard, as if having a gun makes someone psychotic. Since every life is important, doctors should focus more on saving lives that they may be taking.
It should be mentioned that guns are used 2.5 million times per year defensively, saving untold lives without firing a shot.
Frank is a friend of mine, and most of his family was killed by Nazis in Germany after Hitler removed their guns, ensuring they had no defense. This is the real purpose of the Second Amendment and the reason that there is no gun debate.
Let's take emotional blindness out of politics and let doctors be doctors.
