Decision put off on ending pact with ambulance firms

Wednesday, April 18, 2001 | 10:24 a.m.

The Clark County Commission, acting as the University Medical Center board of trustees, on Tuesday tabled a vote on whether to terminate contracts for critical care transport with American Medical Response and Southwest Ambulance.

Board members are considering ending the contract that allows Southwest and AMR to "rent" UMC nurses for $23.05 to ride along with critical care patients who are being transported between medical facilities.

A second contract with the two ambulance companies to provide critical care transport for the county's only public hospital could also be terminated.

The vote was rescheduled for May 1.
