Letter: District’s money is being misused
Tuesday, April 17, 2001 | 9:15 a.m.
Let me get this straight. Since Clark County School Superintendent Carlos Garcia came to town, we have been threatened with bus service being cut, athletics being cut, music programs being cut, no money for textbooks and a plethora of other woes facing our schools.
And yet I read in a recent news article that we somehow have money, in excess of $400,000, to find temporary offices for five new area superintendents. Why can't these new superintendents be housed in local schools and experience the crowded conditions our students face?
I can think of other areas where this huge amount of money can be spent such as bus service, athletics, music, textbooks or even pay raises for teachers and support staff. I'll bet I could not pass this Clark County math proficiency test.
