Letter: Anti-GOP letters prompt rebuttal
Tuesday, April 17, 2001 | 9:14 a.m.
Two letters that appeared in the April 3 issue have compelled me to compose this rebuttal. Both were so blatant with criticism that I took immediate umbrage to them.
To Paul Gwin, your partisan ignorance is apparent. According to you, the only Republican president in our time worth anything was Dwight D. Eisenhower. Surely, Gwin, other Republican presidents had some redeeming qualities, though their economic policies did not meet with your approval. Richard Nixon certainly had problems, which he brought upon himself, and for which he rightfully received the wrath of the American people. But no president in my lifetime had more knowledge of foreign affairs. I am certainly willing to give Bill Clinton some credit for the few noteworthy things that he accomplished. However, just as Nixon will forever be known and remembered for Watergate, Clinton will forever be known and remembered as "Mr. Immorality."
To Norman Wills, though you may despise President George W. Bush and may never agree with his policies -- though you may forever wish that Al Gore had been elected -- Bush is your president, and will be your president until and unless you renounce your United States citizenship.
