Picks: Chaparral should knock off hot Silverado

Just three weeks left in the regular season and lots of work to do to reach the elusive .800 winning percentage. Several tough calls on this week's docket, with parity (and Cimarron) reigning supreme.

WEEK SEVEN

Friday's Games

CHAPARRAL (4-2, 0-1) at SILVERADO (4-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

After starting like gangbusters, the Cowboys have returned to earth with a thud, losing to Foothill and Eldorado the past two weeks. The Skyhawks, on the other hand, are one of the area's hottest clubs at the moment. So, in this wild, topsy-turvy season, I'm bucking trends and taking Chap.

Pick - Chaparral 28, Silverado 21

ELDORADO (5-1, 1-0) at VALLEY (4-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

A battle for first place in the Northeast, with two of the area's best running backs -- Sundevil Steven Jackson and Viking James Sims -- matching up. As usual, I'm riding Jackson to victory.

Pick - Eldorado 31, Valley 17

CHEYENNE (4-2, 0-1) at PALO VERDE (4-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

An intriguing matchup that will likely decide who finishes behind Cimarron in the Northwest. Both teams are playing good football at the moment, but the Desert Shields have too much athleticism.

Pick - Cheyenne 20, Palo Verde 13

LAS VEGAS (2-4, 1-1) at RANCHO (1-5, 0-2), 7 p.m.

You can count on these teams getting up for the annual Bone Game. QB D.J. Porter returns for Rancho, but the Wildcats are flying high after knocking off Desert Pines.

Pick - Las Vegas 34, Rancho 14

FOOTHILL (3-2, 1-1) at GREEN VALLEY (3-3, 0-2), 7 p.m.

The Gators' playoff hopes hang in the balance.

Pick - Green Valley 27, Foothill 19

WESTERN (2-4, 0-1) at BONANZA (0-6, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Just what the doctor ordered for the struggling Warriors.

Pick - Western 26, Bonanza 7

CLARK (2-4, 1-1) at DURANGO (2-4, 1-1), 7 p.m.

The Blazers got their confidence back last week and should make it two in a row.

Pick - Durango 21, Clark 17

CIMARRON-MEMORIAL (6-0, 2-0) at MOJAVE (1-5, 0-2), 7 p.m.

The only question here is whether the Spartans will post their second straight shutout.

Pick - Cimarron 27, Mojave 6

DESERT PINES (5-1) at BASIC (2-4), 7 p.m.

Perfect no longer, the Jags should knock off the suddenly red-hot Wolves.

Pick - Desert Pines 34, Basic 15

BISHOP GORMAN (4-2, 2-0) at CENTENNIAL (1-5), 7 p.m.

Even the return of their mascot won't spell victory for the Bulldogs.

Pick - Gorman 24, Centennial 10

Last week: 8-2 Season: 46-17 (.730)
